After a long and challenging recovery from a serious ankle injury, Richard L., a local athlete, has successfully completed his first triathlon just one year after undergoing reconstructive surgery with Dr. Tuvi Mendel at Orthopaedic Specialists. After injuring his ankle during a run, Richard continued to struggle with persistent pain and limited mobility. He turned to Dr. Mendel, a fellowship-trained foot and ankle surgeon at Orthopaedic Specialists. Dr. Mendel discovered two damaged tendons in Richard’s ankle and foot and soon after performed a complex surgical repair. Following the procedure, Richard underwent an intensive rehabilitation program led by physical therapist Matt Rokes at Plaza Physical Therapy, focusing on restoring strength, flexibility and endurance.

Step by step, Richard embraced the challenges of recovery and reclaimed his mobility and active lifestyle. Just one year after surgery, his determination carried him across the finish line of his first triathlon.
