Mini-incision Total Knee Replacement / Quad-Sparing Total Knee
Replacement
Knee arthritis can be managed in its early stages with physical therapy,
anti-inflammatory medication, lubricant injections, and cortisone
injections. As the arthritis progresses, the patient is often going
to benefit most from total knee replacement. The Quadricep Muscle
Sparing Total Knee Replacement does not cut into the large thigh muscle
(quadriceps muscle), whereas the traditional knee replacement surgery
does cut the muscle. By not cutting the muscle, the patient often has less
blood loss, less pain, a shorter hospital stay, and a shorter tot5al rehabilitation.
There is less tissue trauma and most patients are able to go home
1 or 2 days after surgery. They also are often able to return to driving
sooner than with the traditional knee replacement surgery.
Uni-compartmental Knee Arthroplasty
a Uni-compartmental Knee Replacement is commonly called a partial
knee replacement. This type of surgery is appropriate if only one
part of the knee is arthritic but the remaining joint surfaces are
still healthy. With this surgery, once the the arthritic joint surfaces
are replaced with a metal implant and the healthy joint surfaces
are left a lone. This can often be done through an incision as small as
3 inches. This surgery is done at a surgery center, and allows the patient
to go home less than24 hours later. Patients frequently have a faster
recovery and rehabilitation with a uni-compartmental knee replacement
when compared to a total knee replacement.
High Flex Knee Replacement
Many daily activities require the knee to bend or flex a great amount.
Some of these activities include climbing stairs, sitting in a chair,
kneeling for prayer, golfing and gardening. Zimmer offers a knee
replacement specifically designed to accommodate deep bending or
deep flexion of up to 155°. This helps patients preserve their flexibility
after knee replacement surgery.
